Picking up Fallen Leaves | Benny Teo's Solo Exhibition
28 April – 8 May 2017

AC43 Gallery was pleased to present the first solo exhibition of Singapore’s young, emerging artist Benny Teo. Featuring over 20 recent oil paintings, Picking up Fallen Leaves gestured toward a new beginning in Benny’s artistic exploration. Through a heavy palette rich in tonal expansion and provocative brushwork that oscillates between a fluid, searching spirit and a bold, agitated character, Benny’s work captivates with its honest pursuit of emotions, both raw and controlled; feelings and desires, freedom and entanglement translate into compelling interactions in pictorial space.

British Master J.M.W Turner’s sublime painterliness is a palpable influence in Benny’s body of work. Utilising the expressivity of gesture, elements like lines, shapes and colours engage in dramatic exchanges to create an atmospheric and emotionally-charged space where the diaphanous and the concrete collide; and opposing elements intertwined. The work on display connected viewers with the different dimensions of the artist’s emotional world.

The official opening of Picking up Fallen Leaves took place on 27 April 2017 (Thursday), 7pm. To enable a better understanding of Benny’s journey and artistic process, AC43 Gallery hosted an Artist’s Talk and a Q&A session on 29 April 2017 (Saturday), from 3.00 – 4.00 pm.

Benny Teo (b. 1988, Singapore) graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Fine Arts from LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore in 2013.
